Central station companies provide around-the-clock alarm signal monitoring and reporting. They also provide the installation, testing and maintenance of the signaling equipment installed at the protected properties. FM Approvals has worked with the fire alarm industry to develop the certification for central stations that is consistent with NFPA 72 "The National Fire Alarm Code" requirements.
Securitas Technology is compliant with FM Approval Standard 3011 "Central Station Service for Fire Alarms and Protective Equipment Supervision." Standard 3011 is largely derived from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 72 and encompasses several major areas of Central Station operation.
- CS Facilities
- Equipment (monitoring & receiving)
- Runner Service
- Central Station Personnel/Mgmt. Oversight
- Installation
- Testing & Maintenance @ PP
- Record Keeping
UL Listed
Central Station facilities must meet certain construction and equipment requirements. These requirements help to keep the station secure and safe, and help maintain a high level of service to customers. These are a few of the requirements that Securitas Technology has met to acquire our UL status at both of our Central Stations.
Central Station Facilities
- The central station must be located in a fire-resistant building.
- The Operating Room and the Alarm Investigator's Room must be protected at all times against entrance by those not authorized.
- There must be a direct line to a police station or another central station.
- The entrance to the Operating Room must be kept locked at all times. Positive identification must be presented to allow access to the room.
- The Operating Room must be arranged so that people outside cannot see the interior of the room. Transparent windows at ground level must be covered to prohibit viewing from the outside.
Central Station Fire Protection & Emergency Lighting
- All Central Stations must be constructed to minimize the threat of fire.
- Fire extinguishers are required for the Central Station, satellite stations, power rooms, battery rooms, and near the engine-driven generator.
- To protect the equipment in case of damage from water overhead, a watershed must be installed over the equipment. This watershed may be permanent, or may be a moveable cover or shield installed next to the equipment so that it may be pulled over the equipment by one person.
- Emergency lighting is required in the Operating Room, the Alarm Investigator's Room, the power room and near the engine-driven generator. With a loss of power, emergency lighting must activate immediately and must be independent of the regular power source.
Central Station Alarm Receiving Equipment
- There are provisions that require certain types of wiring connections and wire routing.
Spare alarm receiving equipment must be kept on site, and must be available to be installed in less than one hour in case of malfunction or failure.
- Audible signals are required for alarm receivers.
Central Station Power Systems
- The Central Station must remain operational at all times.
- One or more of the following are required:
A) Storage batteries having sufficient total capacity to power the system under normal conditions for 24 hours.
B) A permanently-installed engine-driven generator of sufficient capacity to power the system under maximum normal load and storage batteries with a four hour capacity.
C) Two or more permanently-installed engine-driven generators may be used as stand-by power. If the largest capacity generator is out of service, the other generator must be capable of providing power to the system under maximum normal load. One of these generators must be equipped with an automatic starting mechanism.
D) When computers are used to receive and or process signals, they must be equipped with an uninterruptible power supply with sufficient capacity to power the computer system for at least fifteen minutes.
E) When using engine-driven generators sufficient fuel must be available to power the generator for at least twenty-four hours.
F) Security must be provided to any engine-driven generator.
Hot Redundant Facilities
Our Facilities are Hot Redundant and State-of-the-Art with no expense spared.
All data is constantly backed-up to a fully functioning back-up system. If the main systems fail we roll instantly to our back-up systems. In the event our telephone lines fail they are re-routed. Should a facility become inoperable we roll to our back-up station. We are Hot Redundant in every sense.
Is your central station prepared?
No one can guarantee that their systems will never go down. Power surges, lightning, bad equipment, user error and sometimes the unknown can cause computer systems to crash without warning.
Will your data be lost?
With Hot Redundant systems you don't have to worry about your data or your signals being lost due to any of the above.
Our systems are Hot Redundant!
Securitas Technology has Hot Redundant systems at our central stations. Data is immediately backed up to a fully-functioning back-up system 24 hours a day. Should our main systems go down the Hot Redundant systems provide a smooth transition. In most instances our operators are not aware of the switch. This capability, coupled with our back-up generator, means we can provide continuous service for you and your customers no matter what natural or human-made disaster may be happening outside of our doors.
Our stations are Hot Redundant!
Not only does Securitas Technology offer you hot redundant systems, but we offer you hot redundant stations. That's two stations for the price of one. In the rare event we loose utilities for an extended period of time or need to evacuate one of our facilities due to natural or man-made disaster; we roll to our back-up station. All received signals are processed without delay and your customers never know the difference. When the situation passes everything is rolled back to the original station. SentryNet provides you and your customer with peace of mind in knowing - "When you need us, we'll be there."
